Moshi Airport is among of the few airports inherited from British colonial state and started its Aerodrome operations in the year 1954 owned and operated by Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain. It was known as “Moshi Aerodrome and King George VI Playing field, the main purpose was to facilitate air transport services within Tanganyika territory and nearby countries (Kenya & Uganda).

Moshi Airport was operated by various Departments like (PWD) Public Works Department (PWD) and Ministry of Works till the year 1999 when TAA was established.

The Airport is classified as Aerodrome Code 3C; ICAO Code HTMS, IATA Code MSQ which facilitates General Aviation Aircraft (non scheduled flight) with weight not exceeding 31,600kg and Categorized as Fire CAT 1 as well as Meteorology services CAT –I according to ICAO categorization.

Moshi Airport is located South west 1NM from Municipal Center found in the Northern part of Tanzania. Moshi  Airport lies on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro an impressive snow caped mountain whose stark peak reaches 5,895meters or 19,341ft above sea level making it first of the highest mountain in Africa.

The airport has two runways, Runway A with Designations of RWY 08/26 with Length 1268 m and Width: 30m, Runway B with Designations of RWY 18/36 with Length 1480m and Width 30m. Moshi airport has two taxways with code TWYA and TWYB with the length of 70m and 12m
